Why hire or buy from me?
I am a clarinet and saxophone teacher and specialise in the instruments I know about; I always have over 100 instruments in stock.
I offer a free 45 minute trial lesson with no obligation to buy or hire. As I work from home, you will have one to one time to try the instruments in a relaxed environment. Further lessons are available for £12 per half an hour.
I check and play every instrument (using my own mouthpiece) to ensure that it is perfectly set up. Ask other suppliers if they take the time to remove the manufacturers corks and play every note on the instrument before sale!
I will match any hire or purchase price and add 3 extra reeds free if you find the same new instrument cheaper elsewhere on the same terms;

I started playing the clarinet when
I was a child and the saxophone soon after. I enjoy playing both instruments in
many bands, including Concert and Big Bands. Since 1990 I have been the
Musical Director of the Southlake Concert Band.
My students range in age from 6 to 72, and I run quartet groups for various
abilities and ages. I initially started hiring instruments to my students
because many of them were having trouble finding hire agreements that were both
flexible and affordable.
In 1996 I decided to offer instrument hire on a wider basis. The
minimum period of hire is just 2 months; you may then either return the
instrument or continue to hire it on a monthly basis for up to 6
months. All rental payments (and the deposit) are deducted from the
purchase price if you buy the instrument. You may also transfer this
discount to any other instrument purchased from me. This allows you to
hire a cheaper instrument with the option to upgrade to a better
quality instrument such as a Yamaha later. You may also change from
alto to tenor/soprano, clarinet to sax etc.
Which sax should I start with?
The alto is the easiest sax to learn on. If you wish to hire a sax that you can play for many years, the Yamaha YAS-275E (£39 per month) or the Trevor James "The Horn Revolution II" (£29 per month) are both excellent saxes. You would only need to upgrade from these saxes when you start pIaying professionally. I am currently offering the new Trevor James Horn Rev II for £19 per month or a Yamaha YAS-275E for £19 per month if you are hiring the sax for a child under 18 years old.
However, if these are too expensive, you could start with an Esprit or Keilwerth Evette alto for £15 per month. The Esprit is made exclusively for me by the world renowned Trevor James who are renowned for their "Horn Revolution II" range of saxes. The Evette is made by Keilwerth who are renowned for their professional level saxes and have recently developed the Evette as an excellent student sax.
The Esprit and Evette are excellent student saxes which are ideal for learning on and playing on your own at home for fun. However, when you start playing with others in groups etc, you would need to upgrade to a sax with better tuning such as the Yamaha YAS-275E or "The Horn Revolution II" as mentioned above. If you upgrade during the 6 month rental term, the rental paid on the Evette or Esprit would count towards the price of the Horn or Yamaha.
Example hire for a 2 month old (as new) Evette/Esprit alto saxophone (includes a new mouthpiece, 2 new reeds and new cleaning cloths)

After the 2 month minimum rental term, you may either return it or continue to hire it on a monthly basis for up to six months when you may either:- 1. return the instrument (and the deposit would be refunded), 2. buy the instrument for £179 or spread the balance over 3 monthly payments of £65 or 6 monthly payments of £35. 3. Transfer the £180 paid (deposit and rental paid) to any other instrument purchased from me (ie upgrade to a Trevor James "The Horn" or Yamaha, change to tenor / soprano sax or clarinet etc.) |

you can afford to buy the sax outright, I would discount the price to £289 (saving
£70) and I will include a free tuition book, Jools Holland tuition DVD,
music stand, saxophone stand
and a padded neck strap worth £75. However, you have the option to sell it back to me
for the same price less £10 per month (e.g. £259
after 3 months, £249 after 4 months £239 after 5 months etc) if you decide
that playing the sax isn't for you (or your son or daughter decides that they
prefer playing football etc!!) The minimum term is 3 months, the maximum
term is 24 months.
If
you can afford to buy the new Yamaha YAS-275E alto sax outright, I would discount the price to £585 and I will include a free sax stand, Jools Holland tuition DVD, tuition book, music stand,
metronome / tuner and padded neck strap
worth £103. However, you have the option to sell it back
to me for £585 less £20 per month (e.g. £525 after 3 months, £505 after 4
months £485 after 5 months etc) if you decide that playing the sax isn't for
you (or your son or daughter decides that they prefer playing football etc!!).
